We can make it usable for kopete by adding these options to 'local myconf=' 
line in ekg ebuild: 
--enable-shared --with-pthread 
 
Just recompile kopete. This works on kopete 7.1.4 and ekg user interface works 
as well.

version bump in bug 34345 fixes this.
