Description Sven Wegener gentoo-dev 2003-11-23 07:34:04 UTC
Hi,

I updated the ebuild to 4.9.9 and added a modified version of the msn support patch from centericq.de.

Well, aclocal fails, if gnutls is not installed, because
/usr/share/aclocal/libgnutls-extra.m4, which defines the macro
AM_PATH_LIBGNUTLS_EXTRA is missing.

aclocal: configure.in: 86: macro `AM_PATH_LIBGNUTLS_EXTRA' not found in library

make: *** [aclocal.m4] Error 1

I updated the patch, to use an aclocal.m4 generated on my system, so it should
compile on every system now.

I asked this in the 4.9.10 ebuild update Sven filed, but I might as well ask here too.
Alex, would you consider allowing MSN at least as a use flag (ideally default)? Support for it works fairly well, and the author's liability concerns clearly are not Gentoo's or Gentoo wouldn't include the other products with MSN support patched in (like gAIM).

any reason why the msn support was left out ? The debian-legal people didnt seem to find any reason a distribution could not include it.. It might be illegal to connect to the msn network with a non-microsoft client, like many uses of many programs in net-p2p are illegal. That does not make it illegal for Gentoo to include such a patch... If the patch's quality is high enough (which should imho be the only thing concerning us), it should probably be included by default....
