MS has an updated version of corefonts at http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?FamilyID=0ec6f335-c3de-44c5-a13d-a1e7cea5ddea&DisplayLang=en «Updated versions of Times New Roman, Arial, Trebuchet and Verdana fonts that include six additional Romanian and Bulgarian characters not available in the Windows XP versions of these fonts.» Supposedly, this update also fixes the infamous Verdana diacritics bug (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Verdana#Combining_characters_bug) It should be fairly easy to incorporate this EU update into the media-fonts/corefonts ebuild by just adding another URL to SRC_URI (http://download.microsoft.com/download/a/1/8/a180e21e-9c2b-4b54-9c32-bf7fd7429970/EUupdate.EXE) and changing the order in which the *.exe files are unpacked so that EUupdate.EXE is unpacked last.
Created attachment 251311 [details, diff] corefonts-1-r5.ebuild.patch Old archives with Arial, Times New Roman, Trebuchet, Verdana fonts now replaced with refreshed ones from EUupdate.
These fonts are not under the "corefonts for the web" license of the currently installed fonts. I presume they are under some restrictive license that will not allow you to redistribute them unless you have a license for windows?
