Description gentoo 2010-10-19 14:20:16 UTC
Ive updated to PHP 5.3.3-r1 and re-installed pecl-apc. Upon startup of PHP I now get this warning:

PHP Warning: PHP Startup: apc.shm_size now uses M/G suffixes, please update your ini files in Unknown on line 0
PHP 5.3.3-pl1-gentoo with Suhosin-Patch (cli) (built: Oct 16 2010 15:23:42)
Copyright (c) 1997-2009 The PHP Group
Zend Engine v2.3.0, Copyright (c) 1998-2010 Zend Technologies
    with Suhosin v0.9.31, Copyright (c) 2007-2010, by SektionEins GmbH

Ive tried removing all config files and re-installing and still get the warning, so I guess the apc.ini file needs to be updated.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Installed PHP 5.3.3-r1
2. Install pecl-apc
3. Run php -v

Actual Results:
# php -v
PHP Warning: PHP Startup: apc.shm_size now uses M/G suffixes, please update your ini files in Unknown on line 0

Try upgrading your apc.ini files, specifically the apc.shm_size variable.
For both files:

/etc/php/cli-php5/ext/apc.ini
/etc/php/apache2-php5/ext/apc.ini

change where it sais:
apc.shm_size="30"

to read:
apc.shm_size="30M"

(you may have a different number, instead of 30)

I think the point has been missed - I know HOW to fix the problem BUT I dont think an ebuild should install a config file that generates errors/warnings, do you?

I agree it should handle this, or at least provide some instructions after emerging the package. However, I had to search a bit to find out what the warning meant as it wasn't clear from the message on the logs. Maybe someone finds my post useful while developers try to address this, maybe not.

Thanks, pecl-apc-3.1.5 should install correct ini files now.
