does MAKEOPTS=-j1 make a difference ?
Comment 3 Dennis Lichtenthäler 2010-10-08 14:48:53 UTC
Nope, still dies with the same message with MAKEOPTS="-j1".
Comment 4 Víctor Ostorga (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-18 15:11:02 UTC

Do you have enough disk space?

I also have seen this error when ld is writing to a.out, while reading from it at the same time. Try to disable ccache and test again
Comment 5 Dennis Lichtenthäler 2010-10-19 08:30:40 UTC
Thanks, Víctor, of course it was ccache! Disabling it allows samba to compile.
Comment 6 Víctor Ostorga (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-19 14:31:33 UTC
Closing, as this was a ccache issue
