Builds fine, but when I try to use it in xfce it doesn't play nice.

Unable to set the background (returns to the one set by xfce), while the test option works.
When use the --emblem option all desktop icons and interaction with xfdesktop disappears.

Could be that this is expected behaviour (two programs trying to do the same at the same time).

After restart of xfce the background seems to be set now.

xfdesktop controls the background in Xfce4, you'd have to kill the xfdesktop process... and possibly do more trickery to get it working. 

well, whatever -> if it's not a regression to -r0, it's not a issue
