Description Jeremy Murphy 2010-09-30 12:26:42 UTC
Unpause (without seeking since the pause) does not resume playback: no sound is output and the time count does not change.

Note: unpause AFTER seeking (changing the location of playback in the file) does not cause this bug.

Bug is not present in 2.2.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Play
2. Pause
3. Unpause

Actual Results:
Pause symbol changes to play but no playback of sound.

Expected Results:
Playback of sound.

I'll mark this bug as x86 until other architectures confirm it.

Missing information:
- output plugin in use
- input file type (AAC/MP3/Ogg, etc)
- VFS location (local filesystem, http://, mms://, etc)
- USE="debug" audacious2 --verbose output

Comment 7 Daniel Nilsson 2010-10-16 11:10:37 UTC
I also have this problem.
Unpause does not work unless seeking after pausing. Unpausing seems to update the graphical analyzer a little but then stops, no sound. Seeking when hung gets playback going again.

Output plugin: ALSA (HDA Intel, Realtek ALC883), I could not reproduce the bug with the null output plug-in.
File type: MP3, WMA
VFS: local filsystem, http
Console output whenever pause/unpause button is pressed:
alsa: snd_pcm_pause failed: Input/output error.
I have not recompiled with debug, if you think it's usefull I'll do it.

I'm running a stable and up-to-date amd64 system.

Comment 8 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-27 14:27:34 UTC
Word from the upstream developer (of the ALSA output plugin in Audacious):
Please try with ALSA 1.0.23

He is using HDA-intel as well (with dmix) and in 1.0.23 the pausing seems fully functional. If this fixes it for you, I aim to stabilise ALSA 1.0.23 together with Audacious 2.4.0
Comment 9 Jeremy Murphy 2010-10-27 22:17:54 UTC
Confirmed: works fine with ALSA 1.0.23. (Tested 1.0.22 as well, where it is still broken.)

Excellent, thank you. Now we have a fix.

I will mark this as a duplicate and the stabilisation bug as a blocker for the Audacious stable.

Comment 11 Tony Vroon (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-10-27 22:35:54 UTC
Hm, no. That's not good for record-keeping as the stabling on AMD64 has already happened. Let me push that ALSA 1.0.23 through for you instead. Keeping this open.
Comment 12 Alex Buell 2010-11-03 08:43:32 UTC
I'm experiencing the same annoying problem! Please stabalise alsa 1.0.23 asap.
