I was emerging gnome-utils and I got the following error: libeggsmclient/Makefile.am:3: blank line following trailing backslash I checked the file in /var/tmp/portage/gnome-extra/gnome-utils-2.30.0/work/gnome-utils-2.30.0/libeggsmclient/Makefile.am and it contains: INCLUDES = \ \ I tried changing the line and then calling make from the work/gnome-utils-2.30.0 and it worked (make did). emerge -r did not help, however, since the file got rewritten.
