Apparently, AMD released a Catalyst driver in the Maverick repo that fully support X.Org server 1.9: http://www.phoronix.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26164 Do we still do these ati-driver ebuilds with the weird version numbers?
And it also seems like they added .36 kernel support!https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/fglrx-installer/2:8.780-0ubuntu2

Developers don't want to encourage the use of those drivers much since they are beta release after all, and you have to wait just one month for the official release. About .36 kernel support don't worry tomorrow all this stuff should be available in the main portage tree we hope [and you will get .36 support also in the 10.9 ebuild]
Was hoping for that mythical xserver 1.9 support, which only the Ubuntu driver supports, along with the other (apparently) big news: tear-free, vsync'ed desktop effects. I'm not using kernel .36 actually.
Created attachment 248933 [details] the 10.10 beta ebuild can someone test this for me? i'm still unable to build a test machine with xorg server 1.9 (it works only with that version).

I've just emerged it (I'm on xorg-server-1.9.0-r1.) It works. Kind of. The desktop is not tear-free like with KMS/DRI2, but GL application running on the composited desktop (KDE4 here) are tear-free and VSynced. However, when doing this, everything gets jerky and skippy (moving windows around, etc) to the point the whole thing turns useless. Also, trying to do anything else while GL VSync with composite is currently active, the thing crashes more often than not. Bottom line: emerge -C ati-drivers and back to xf86-video-ati. Yep, fglrx still sucks. :-P

Keep in mind this is a beta release, i currently use 10.9-r1 and i don't have such problems even with a virtual of 3200x1080. I think it is more nice to keep this judge for the AMD feedback service then the gentoo bugzilla ;)
It is in portage now. version 8.780 :)
There seems to be a newer rc online (german site, release notes in english): http://www.ati-forum.de/allgemein/downloads/treiber/3269-catalyst-10-10-beta-f%C3%BCr-linux/ http://www.ati-forum.de/files/Downloads/Driver/ati-driver-installer-8.783_RC1-x86.x86_64.rar i don't know if its worth to bump it or just wait for the release.
