Description Stanislav Ochotnicky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-09-20 19:50:40 UTC
I hit this bug in a chroot environment with ~amd64 system. Attached build.log and emerge --info output. I can reproduce even with older nss ebuilds. I am in process of updating core components (gcc/glibc/etc). I'll report if that fixes my problems.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge =dev-libs/nss-3.12.7

Actual Results:
mpi/mpi_x86.s:102: Error: 8-byte relocation cannot be applied to 4-byte field
mpi/mpi_x86.s:107: Error: 8-byte relocation cannot be applied to 4-byte field
mpi/mpi_x86.s:111: Error: suffix or operands invalid for `push'

and more error messages

Expected Results:
Successfully build dev-libs/nss

Using an x86 kernel with a 64bit build chroot is not gonna work, nor is it supported.
Comment 3 Stanislav Ochotnicky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-09-28 19:34:36 UTC
Hmm, my host system is actually x86_64 not i686. Uname in chroot is different from host chroot. Any idea why that might be the case?

Comment 4 Stanislav Ochotnicky (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-09-28 19:36:30 UTC
Ah, I realized why this is the case. I copied my alias from i686 chroot which had "linux32 chroot ..." therefore there was that mixup...
