Description Kai-Uwe Kriewald 2003-11-19 04:43:20 UTC
I used:
- amd64 install cd 20031109
- emerge from stage1
- kernel: Linux version 2.6.0-test9-bk23
- xfsprogs 2.6.0
on dual Opteron with a 6x SCSI / Intel Corp. RAID Controller
works perfect :-)

Ok, I'm going to let this report sit for a couple of
days. Let me know if you run into any oddities.

Also, what mobo and cpus do you have?

If everything is OK, I'll add this to the technotes
in a couple of days.

mobo TYAN K8S
cpu 2x AMD Opteron 240
ram 4x 1GB DDR 333 reg ECC (each cpu 2GB)
I plan to use this machine as a postgresql server

next 2-3 weeks I'll build another system (storage server):
mobo MSI K8D Master
cpu 1x AMD Opteron 240
ram 2x 1GB DDR reg ECC
raid 3Ware 8506 8x SATA
HDDs 8x MAXTOR Maxline II Plus 250GB/7200/SATA
=> 2TB RAID5 (and space for another 8 drives)
I'll send a report too...

Comment 4 Kai-Uwe Kriewald 2003-11-30 06:39:02 UTC

as I allready told you.

Just noticed a little typo at
http://dev.gentoo.org/~brad_mssw/amd64-tech-notes.html
"The Bootloader: grub-static...
...emerge grub-static
cp -Rpv /usr/share/grub/i386_pc/* /boot/grub"

should be:
cp -Rpv /usr/share/grub/i386-pc/* /boot/grub
Comment 6 Kai-Uwe Kriewald 2003-12-01 02:58:01 UTC
Building of my new storage server is completed
and the XFS filesystem looks brilliant running
2.6.0-test10 and samba :-)

Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda3 7818852 1210436 6608416 16% /
/dev/sda1 195980 2328 193652 2% /boot
/dev/sda4 1705698820 3938588 1701760232 1% /opt/storage/vol1
none 1026108 0 1026108 0% /dev/shm

I'm just pumping some gigs into vol1...
Comment 7 Kai-Uwe Kriewald 2003-12-02 03:43:08 UTC

Comment 8 Brad House 2003-12-13 08:30:39 UTC
