Description Rabbe Fogelholm 2010-09-19 11:23:40 UTC
I wonder if it is the case that debianutils-3.2.3 has been removed from Debian repositories, while portage (stable) still depends on version 3.2.3?

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make sure sys-apps/debianutils is not in any /etc/portage/package.* file
2. make sure no debianutils distfiles present
2. emerge debianutils

Actual Results:
the source cannot be downloaded

Expected Results:
successful emerge

I was able to emerge version 3.4, by adding a line "sys-apps/debianutils" in /etc/portage/package.keywords.

My `emerge --info' is:

Portage 2.1.8.3 (default/linux/amd64/10.0/desktop, gcc-4.4.3, glibc-2.11.2-r0, 2.6.34-gentoo-r1 x86_64)

It makes no difference whatsoever if file is removed from upstream site (Debian mirrors in this case) because the file will still be in Gentoo mirrors. That's why we have the mirroring system in the first place.

Only reason it would fail, would be invalid mirror settings in your make.conf

So closing as invalid, fix your make.conf
Comment 2 Rabbe Fogelholm 2010-09-19 11:42:42 UTC
My setting in /etc/make.conf is

GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://mirror.mdfnet.se/mirror/gentoo"

which is one of the servers listed on http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors2.xml

I'll change it and see if it helps.
Comment 3 Rabbe Fogelholm 2010-09-19 12:25:08 UTC
I made an automated mirror search, which came up with

GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://gentoo.tiscali.nl/ http://gentoo.mneisen.org/ http://gentoo.supp.name/ http://de-mirror.org/distro/gentoo/"

- having these in /etc/make.conf I can now emerge stable debianutils-3.2.3.

Thanks for pointing me to a solution!
