since some days emerge -pu world wants to upgrade binutils to 2.14.90.7-r3, emerge

X&KDE are sometimes running, sometimes not. Even with almost all of the ram 
available and nothing else running, the emerge will fail. 
 
System is an Athlon Xp2000, K7S8X, 512 MB ram, 1GB swap, gf 4 mx graka, 120GB 
harddisk, ~x86 for ages.

Hi,

after an emerge sync, portage&baselayout-update today, and after the latest gcc-config got installed, binutils emerged without problems.

So the problem is fixed for me.
