I tried to make a 2.6-only-system with the gentoo-dev-sources and had to find 
out that it doesn't provide the needed alsa-scripts. I'm missing the following 
files, maybe there are more: 
/etc/init.d/alsasound 
/etc/modules.d/alsa

Please add the files to the ebuild.

alsa-utils provides those files

the kernel only provides the driver (i.e. alsa-drivers)
