when I open any menu, (including the context menu with right mouse click) firefox 3.6.9 crashes. I tried to rebuild firefox, xulrunner, libpng, jpeg, and I did a revdep-rebuild. The result is still the same. console just says: failed to create secure directory. Access denied. segfault. However, this even happens when I open firefox as root, having ensured that I have all access rights possible on my machine. Also, I do not understand why clicking on a menu needs firefox to "create a secure directory"? I have deleted my profile, I tried to start firefox in safe mode. Unfortunately, the error is even present in safemode. Reproducible: Always

Hello, I found that the problem was also present with 3.6.8. So, I concluded that it was not the fault of firefox, since it got broken after a recent emergy --sync; emerge -uD world. I then looked in the portage logfiles and found out that a new version of cairo had been put into the three recently. It seems that firefox does not work with x11-libs/cairo-1.10.0-r3 After switsching back to x11-libs/cairo-1.8.10 firefox works as usual and everything is ok.

Unfortunately, the bug is still present with the new cairo. Updating firefox and xulrunner did not help. When reverting to old cairo, the behavior was normal. So it seems to be a cairo/firefox problem.

The only problem I'm having with firefox-3.6.9-r1 and cairo-1.10.0-r3 is that animated gifs are broken (it just blinks the first frame of the gif). But I think that's a known problem, see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-6420679.html

Reading what fixed the problem in firefox,I tried the same downgrading. Thunderbird then showed animated gifs correctly. However I didn't have this problem in FF,only in TB. Gerard.
