Note: similar bug exists but this build failure condition is different. While emerging gnome, aspell-0.50.3 build failed with the following error output: getdata.cpp:29 internal error: Segmentation fault... string.cpp:13 internal error: Segmentation fault... Will attach emerge info and error source Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.emerge gnome on a new gentoo 1.4 distribution 2. 3. Actual Results: aspell-0.50.3 failed to build Expected Results: aspell-0.50.3 should build with no errors

reassigning bug.. not gnome reporter, internal segfaults and the like usually point to faulty hardware, especially if it happens seemingly random (as your first sentence might indicate). Please rule that out first.
I tried installing the updated aspell 0.50.4.1 but my ebuild skills are novice at this point as this is my first gentoo install. The build is failing each time, I put the "Note" in the bug because there was a similar bug 5454. Sorry for the confusion - I'll try to get the updated package installed.
Fred is this happening only on aspell or on any other packages as well. Also, is it happening on every version of aspell?
I So far aspell is the only package I have encountered the error in on ay to emerging gnome. It has occurred on 0.50.3, and also on 0.50.4.1. I am updating gcc to 3.3.2 to see if this fixes the problem.
Problem resolved by upgrading gcc to gcc-3.3.2-r2.ebuild. Thanks for your response Seemant, Gentoo rocks!
