Description Stefan Trenker 2010-09-11 17:32:14 UTC
After upgrading from bluez-4.66-r1 to 4.69 PAN stop working. I am still using the 4.66-r network.conf.
Downgrading to 4.66-r1 or upgrading to unstable 4.71 brings my PAN back again (still with the mentioned network.conf)

Reproducible: Always

Actual Results:
PAN broken

Expected Results:
PAN not broken

I have tsted with a amd64 system as well. Same findings.

Nework.conf I am using

We will test this with 4.71 then, since it's the version I would like to stabilize soon.

You say it works if using network.conf provided with 4.66, not? What does occur when using default 4.71 one? What errors do you get?

I do not get any errors on my bluez. I get errors on my mobile phone that my laptop does not support any bluetooth based network functions whe I install bluez-4.69. This happens on 32bit and on 64bit installations.

I use the PAN to share the UMTS-Internet connection of my mobile phone with my laptop when I am travelling.

The PAN works with the default network.conf as well when I set up a DHCP config for in /etc/conf.d/net. This is perfectly ok for me since I need a /etc/init.d/net.bnep0 anyway.

But for my special IP setup on my laptop I still need to change the default bridge name for the GN Role (see attached config file). If I do not change the name then my blueman installation creates a pan0 interface with an IP4LL address assigned to it which collides with my bridge interface br0 which has an IP4LL address as well. Two Interfaces in the same OP subnet on the same host is not allowed in IP routing. And I need this bridge br0 to address some virtual machines I use to run on my laptop from time to time.

OK, then, please report this directly to upstream, for that you simply need to subscribe to their mailing list:
http://www.bluez.org/development/lists/

and then, explain them why do you still need to use "big" network.conf instead of current one, since upstream seems to think that extra options shouldn't be needed.

Thanks

Did you reported it?

No, I did not report it.

My understanding is, that mainstream just changes the default network.conf.
As long as I have a chance to customize the network.conf according to my needs I am ok.

But upstream changed it since they think original one wasn't needed... and it doesn't look to be correct (at least for your system)
