After a successful installation of Gentoo Linux on the HPPA platform you are not
able to login on the serial console. This behaviour is caused by a missing line
in /etc/securetty. Add 'tts/0' to the end of /etc/securetty before rebooting the
first time after installation.

I fixed this some time ago in the shadow ebuild.

i added the fix for all arches since i hit this 'bug' on my x86/alpha boxes as well
