Description Jeroen Roovers (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-09-09 17:12:17 UTC
I don't know yet what the exact cause is, but no doubt it has to do with the patchy uptake in mainline of patches from the parisc-linux team.

Marked sys-kernel/{gentoo,vanilla}-sources-2.6.35* -hppa.

Hi,

I'm not sure if we're hitting the same bug but I also have hangs on my amd64 system, when using "small" ram configuration, like 512Mb. This looks to be related to swap usage AFAICT.
I'm running 2.6.35.6 and when I have swap activated, trying to emerge gcc or glibc (it should swap memory) will hang at some point, typically when leaving src_compile for gcc. Nothing to see in dmesg.
I increased the ram to 2Gb and disabled swap and I could emerge -e system without any hangup.

Do you think it might be related?

gmsoft reports that 2.6.35.4 is OK. Keywording has been changed accordingly.
