--without-plugin-* is actually used in late stages, but configure moans anyway
It's false positives due to a lazy set of configure scripts. Read the configure --help you'll see that the configure options are used by the toplevel configure script, but they are also passed to all subdir configure scripts, where they aren't recognized.
