I'm running gnome-panel 2.4.0-r2. When autohidden panels unhide on a mouseover, they don't come to the front as they did in previous incarnations of gnome-panel, and one has to either move overlapping windows or click on some exposed portion of the unhidden panel (possibly eliciting an unwanted action) to get the panel to come to front. It's a real PITA! I don't see a switch for this anywhere, and lacking a switch, an auto-unhidden panel should be raised to the top of the window stack by default.
what window manager are you using ? I can't reproduce this with metacity or openbox3.
Sawfish-1.3-r2
I can't reproduce it in metacity either. It looks like a sawfish bug. Can this bug be transferred to the attention of the Gentoo sawfish folk, or should I close this bug and open one against sawfish. Or is it an upstream issue??
well, we are officially the gentoo sawfish people too. But we have a dev more into it i think (adding to CC for now). As far as trouble with sawfish goes, probably upstream problem. To my knowledge sawfish is sort of unmaintained and has been for quite a while.
Pity. I checked the sawmill repository on sourceforege and the last upstream release was last March, and CVS activity for it looks kind of dead. I've more or less standardized on it here. It's a nice wm. Tried enlightenment - Bleah!! and metacity is pretty minimal. This is the only problem I have with it, and otherwise it's trouble free. It's probably about as close as I'll get to the true contiguous virtual desktops that we had in gnome1.
Lindsay, can you report this problem in the gnome bugzilla and leave a link here, then i can close this.
I'll do this. Maybe it'll get bounced over to someone maintaining sawfish, if anyone is. Other WMs don't have the problem, but I really like sawfish otherwise!
See http://bugs.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=130253
resolve as upstream bug. thnx for the report
Lindsay, sorry I haven't piped up 'til now... I think this might be fixed in sawfish-1.3-r3. Also the patch has been applied to the sawfish CVS but I don't know when John will release a new version. See http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=127865 I'd like to know if sawfish-1.3-r3 fixes it for you.
According to 'emerge -s sawfish' I'm running sawfish-1.3-r3 and have been since Nov. 19th, apparently (that the timestamp on the executable) and the problem is not fixed.
Okay, thanks. Too bad. We'll have to wait for the upstream fix.
