Description Jim Sublette 2002-06-03 18:05:19 UTC
when trying to install exim or postfix I receive the following message.

!!! Error: the virtual/mta package conflicts with this package and both can't be
installed on the same system together.

so I do not have an mta installed. Can't install one.

try:

emerge unmerge ssmtp

emerge postfix

IIRC ssmtp is installed by default as part of the build process. This one bit
me too :)

I filed a new bug (#3378) about changing the error
message so that it is a bit more explicit.

It looks like virtual/mta, which by default is set to net-mail/ssmtp,
gets installed initially by {d,v,f}cron. That's a potential problem,
since I don't think that ssmpt can deliver locally.

Woodchip, should we consider a different default mta?

If u pretend to emege the package it explicitly says waht's confilictiong.

so hmm..

can i close this ticket -- theres no issue other than is
ssmtp a good choice for a default mta or not..

i dont have an opinion on that, it seems okay to me.
