Description ta2002 2010-09-01 14:56:51 UTC
Never saw this in 2.6.34 (or earlier).

On two different machines (different hardware), booting into 2.6.35-r4 works fine remotely (ssh), but upon any press of any key on the keybord, the machine locks up (screen goes black, network connections go down - won't even reply to pings). The log contains no useful information upon reboot. At the console, pressing the space key starts an endless stack dump on the screen (too fast to read, but the time does NOT increment). Pressing a letter key produces a stack dump that stops after a couple of seconds (I will attach a photo).

Note that I have no modules loaded in the kernel (I believe in building everything in).

Portage 2.1.8.3 (default/linux/x86/10.0/desktop, gcc-4.4.3, glibc-2.11.2-r0, 2.6.34-gentoo-r1 i686)

This actually looks like another manifestation of kernel bug 15758 (though completely different hardware and symptoms).

I tried installing vanilla-sources linux-2.6.35.3, and compiled the kernel with no changes. I did not get a crash. Then I uncommented line 130 in /usr/src/linux-2.6.35.3/drivers/char/Makefile (with no other changes), recompiled the kernel, and got the crash again.

Is there some way of poking the upstream developers to fix this?

Best way would be to file a bug report on bugzilla.kernel.org.

There is an existing upstream bug (see the URL above), but they don't seem very interested in fixing it.

We;ll follow the upstream bug, thanks,
