see "Additional Information"

Reproducible: Always

Hi,

We used to be a mirror of yours some time ago. That server had issues, and we eventually became out of sync and were removed from your mirror rotation.

This server is now online, actively synced, and being cared for again, so it should remain up from now on. The info for the server is as follows:

  HTTP: http://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/
  FTP: ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/
  Our name: pair Networks
  Location: Pittsburgh, PA USA
  Bandwidth: Multiple GigE connections

Synced from: rsync6.us.gentoo.org
Frequency: every 4 hours
Modules synced: gentoo-distfiles and gentoo-portage

Please let me know if you need any additional information or if I need to change the setup at all.

Thanks,
Dan W.

You are also serving as an rsync mirror? I'm asking because you said you are syncing the gentoo-portage module as well.

I have put your server into our monitoring system so we can check it for the
next 2 weeks. If everything looks okay, you will be put into the official
rotation.

Please make sure you have read the appropriate policy documentation:

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml
http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml

Also, please ask Mark's question in comment 1

Hello,

We will not be serving as an rsync mirror at this time, just the web and FTP.

Is the portage tree only used via rsync, and if so, should I stop updating that portion of the mirror?

Yes, portage tree is only via rsync, so you can stop it since only http and ftp is put in our monitoring system.
However, our system reported that your mirror is lagging, could you please check if your update freq is 4 hours?

Hmm I think maybe we were rsyncing the wrong module possibly. I changed to rsync5.us.gentoo.org::gentoo and it started grabbing a bunch more. I left it go and it looks like it completed over the weekend.

Total size is now 177G. Does that sound more accurate?

Sorry about that,
Dan

That will _work_, but it is only working by chance...

I kindly ask you to re-read the setup instructions http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml which say to rsync from ftp.ussg.iu.edu::gentoo-distfiles

Also, please read the Update Frequency, as your mirror is/was at least 8 hours behind. Thanks.

Ok, the server has been changed again and I'm running a fresh sync now just to pickup any little changes. Sorry about that, I definitely did read the guide but must have missed that somehow.

It's definitely been set to sync every 4 hours for some time, so hopefully syncing from the best possible rsync server will put that problem to rest. Here is the cron job in question:

  38 3,7,11,15,19,23 * * * /usr/home/mirrors/bin/sync-gentoo.sh

Thanks and I'm sorry again for any inconvenience.

Your ftp mirror doesn't allow access to files/dirs starting with dot, so our monitor system gets a 550 when trying to access ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/releases/.test/timestamp.x
please fix this one too, thank you
Comment 9 Dan Wyrostek 2010-10-21 06:08:59 UTC
OK, I've changed the 'a-pathname-filter' setting in our NcFTPd config, and it looks to be working as requested now. I was able to load this file now at least, so I assume it's better:

  ftp://gentoo.mirrors.pair.com/releases/.test/timestamp.x

Let me know if there's anything else.

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors2.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors+subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Thanks for the hardware and bandwidth!
