Description Lee J. Moore 2002-06-03 07:55:12 UTC
After a world update on 03-Jun-2002 which upgraded libpng to version 1.2.3,
most KDE applications refused to run because of a missing libpng.so.3. KDM
could also not be restarted after a reboot making KDE impossible to load. No
doubt this affects the vast majority X based WM's and WE's.

This problem occurs because file: /usr/lib/libpng.so.3 is symlinked to the old
/usr/lib/libpng.so.3.1.2.1 file which no longer exists after the upgrade.

Fixable by becoming superuser and typing:

ln -s /usr/lib/libpng.so.3.1.2.3 /usr/lib/libpng.so.3

portage related bug that it fails mtimes when you have "autoclean" enabled.

emerge unmerge libpng; emerge libpng

Will remove all instances and then install it "clean" and that will work.
