Description Elias Gabriel Amaral da Silva 2010-08-23 08:00:25 UTC
I'm installing util-vserver on my CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" gentoo system, with uname -m being "x86_64". Dietlibc appears as a dependency.

During dietlibc build I get this:

x86_64/start.S: Assembler messages:
x86_64/start.S:9: Error: bad register name `%rdi'
x86_64/start.S:10: Error: bad register name `%rsp'
x86_64/start.S:11: Error: bad register name `%rdi'
x86_64/start.S:13: Error: bad register name `%rsi,%rdi,8)'
x86_64/start.S:19: Error: bad register name `%rdx'
x86_64/start.S:49: Error: bad register name `%rax'

I'm unsure what is the right platform, but I'm setting as "x86".

please try if this is still an issue with 0.33_pre20100626
Comment 3 Elias Gabriel Amaral da Silva 2010-08-23 17:25:00 UTC
Hi. Yes, it is.

but if I booted with a 32 bit kernel, I could. (In the end, I installed 0.30-r2 that way)

build failed for 0.33_pre20100626 too
Comment 5 Martin Wohlert 2012-04-04 14:15:33 UTC
This bug is still present and it also comes in a chroot. I have a x86_64 machine running and build a x86 chroot environment and try to install dietlibc in that chroot. Always the errors reported here (nearly 2 years ago).

tried 0.30, 0.32 (OSSDL overlay) and 0.33 with GCC 4.6, 4.5, 4.2 and 4.1. always the same.
Comment 6 Benedikt Böhm (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-12-07 13:40:33 UTC
please report this to upstream. i've already way too much time fixing dietlibcs broken machien detection ... sigh

Please, take a look to #378711 where there is portage/ebuild solution
