acroread built with the following options:

cups, ldap, linguas_en, nsplugin

Running into the same issue, acroread 9.3.4 update today didn't solve it either. emerge --info:

Common elements with the original poster: x86 system, -O3 present in CFLAGS.
Comment 4 Mark R. Pariente 2010-09-01 04:31:56 UTC
I've had some time to work on this so I've hooked acroread to GDB and identified which libraries it was crashing in. After some trial and error I've identified the culprit(s). Building glib (libgobject-2.0.so.0) and fontconfig (libfontconfig.so.1) with -O2 (instead of -O3) results in working acroread. This is good enough for me, so I'm not going to further debug which precise optimization flag causes the issue (-fcrazy-optimize!), but this could be a GCC bug, so it would be nice if someone follows up on it.
Comment 5 Bjarni Herjolfsson 2010-09-02 04:20:26 UTC
Just rebuilding media-libs/fontconfig-2.8.0 with the -O2 flag actually fixed it for me.

Not in the tree anymore.
