Description Arne Skjærholt 2003-11-12 15:18:58 UTC
I did a stage 2 gentoo install on my AthlonXP 2400+, and everything seemed to
work out just fine. However, when I rebooted into the real system it complained
about "Unresolved symbol _mmx_memcpy" when inserting the modules for my NIC
(RTL8139 based) and for the USB modules. After much fiddling around with kernel
config options someone suggested that I make mrproper instead of make clean that
I had done up to that point. After having made mrproper I reconfiged my kernel,
compiled and rebooted and everytihng worked just fine. I was unable to acertain
exactly -what- genkernel goofed up, but it sure did mess something up.
I have seen this problem duplicated on a stage 3 install with the same NIC
chipset, and on an install that I believe to be without this particular NIC
chipset.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run genkernel, no options.
2. Install kernel.
3. Reboot.

Actual Results:
Kernel complains about "Undefined symbol _mmx_memcpy", and NIC & USB modules
fail to work.

Expected Results:
Make a working kernel.

My hardware setup (if for some reason or the other you need it):
-Epox EP-8K9A mobo
-512 MB PC2100 DDR-SDRAM
-RTL 8139 based NIC
-Asus GeForce FX gfx card

must be using an old version of genkernel or something, it always
runs mrproper by default as of 3.x
