virt-manager libvirt will not boot the VM from an ntfs raw image

my installed packages:

emerge -pv virtinst virt-manager libvirt

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

I've got this queued in the Gentoo updates that make up qemu-kvm-0.12.5-r1. This patch is also in the qemu-kvm-0.13.0_rc0 experimental ebuild.
