Description Chad A. Simmons 2010-08-16 02:11:54 UTC
Folding at home crashes with the following error after upgrading glibc to 2.12.1 if nscd is not started.(Reemerging foldingathome does not correct).

fah6[12546] general protection ip:7f0a7bc997bc sp:40943220 error:0 in libc-2.12.1.so[7f0a7bc66000+15c000]

There appears to be some disscussion of what might be this issue at http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=44&t=13064&start=90

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge foldingathome
2.emerge glibc to 2.12.1
3.fah6 process faults if nscd is not running

i dont think that forum post is relevant. it talks about problems with glibc-2.11, and with resolver problems. nowhere does it talk about crashes that i can see.

is fah6 statically linked ?
Comment 2 Chad A. Simmons 2010-08-20 00:17:19 UTC
Yes it is. I guess the only thing that could be done would be to depend on nscd and ewarn people to start it.
Comment 3 Alexey Shildyakov 2011-01-17 06:51:48 UTC
So, when somebody add to /etc/init.d/foldingathome like this?

depend() {
        need nscd
}
Comment 4 Jeffrey Gardner (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-06-19 17:13:36 UTC
Fixed in 6.34. Thanks!
