How about a couple checks to see if your avahi can find zeroconf services avahi-browse-domains -a -t avahi-browse -a -r -t

Ok so I take it your avahi browse works now, so assigning bug to empathy maintainers for further debugging suggestions
after the upgrade it works fine here. Could you run empathy from command line and see if it prints any errors ?

Closing as UPSTREAM as I figured out how to configure this damn account.. .;) Hint: it's the third option on "Set up accounts" wizard..
