Description Priit Laes (IRC: plaes) 2010-08-10 18:04:26 UTC
I seem to have all required packages installed (see below), but empathy does not show the 'nearby users' account option:

[ebuild R ] net-im/telepathy-mission-control-5.2.5 USE="-test" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] net-dns/avahi-0.6.27 USE="autoipd dbus gdbm gtk python -bookmarks -doc -howl-compat -ipv6 -mdnsresponder-compat -mono -qt4 -test" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] net-voip/telepathy-salut-0.3.10 USE="ssl -test" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] net-voip/telepathy-connection-managers-1 USE="zeroconf -icq -irc -jabber -msn -sip -yahoo" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] net-im/empathy-2.30.2 USE="nautilus networkmanager webkit -debug -spell -test" 0 kB

And emerge --info:

How about a couple checks to see if your avahi can find zeroconf services

avahi-browse-domains -a -t
avahi-browse -a -r -t

This is weird:
plaes@chi ~ $ avahi-browse-domains -a -t
Failed to create client object: Daemon not running

plaes@chi ~ $ ps aux |grep -i avahi
avahi 25157 0.0 0.0 33940 1800 ? S 07:08 0:00 avahi-daemon: running [chi.local]
avahi 25158 0.0 0.0 33808 556 ? S 07:08 0:00 avahi-daemon: chroot helper
root 25171 0.0 0.0 10208 608 ? S 07:08 0:00 /usr/sbin/avahi-dnsconfd -D

Ok, that issue was bug 331275, but my empathy's account types dropdown is still empty

Ok so I take it your avahi browse works now, so assigning bug to empathy maintainers for further debugging suggestions
Comment 5 Gilles Dartiguelongue (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-08-23 06:47:20 UTC
after the upgrade it works fine here. Could you run empathy from command line and see if it prints any errors ?

I have clean install on another laptop.

No errors are shown on console (I even tried bumping telepathy-salut to 0.3.13, but still no account visible).

Closing as UPSTREAM as I figured out how to configure this damn account.. .;)

Hint: it's the third option on "Set up accounts" wizard..
