I don't understand why gentoo uses packages.gentoo.org instead of znurt.org? The latter seems far superior in terms of style, functions etc. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce:
beandog: what's your take on it?
(In reply to comment #1) > beandog: what's your take on it? > Ah, I dunno .. I'd like it to be "official", but IMO there are some bugs that would need to be fixed before that could happen. Plus a code audit.
Plus enough setup so we can move it to infra servers.
I sent beandog mail about this. -A
I never heard back from Steve about hosting znurt, or getting the source code. -A
(In reply to Alec Warner from comment #5) > I never heard back from Steve about hosting znurt, or getting the source > code. > > -A It's in github: https://github.com/beandog I could put more work into it if there's interest, but the way it accesses the portage tree -- by today's application standards -- is really dated. That's not really a blocker in itself, as the data / schema set is well-structured so that it can adapt to changes. Code could be optimized a lot in places too. Basically, a lot of work. I'm curious to see if there's any actual interest in pushing forward, though.
(In reply to Robin Johnson from comment #3) > Plus enough setup so we can move it to infra servers. For the record, deps are PHP, PostgreSQL, some PEAR packages, and read access to a portage tree. Could be a few more I'm forgetting, but that's mostly it.

I suppose PostgreSQL is a requirement?

Yah, postgres is a hard req. Uses stored procedures, postgres functions, features, etc.
Is there a way to get access to the source code of current packages.gentoo.org? If I were able to import the same data into the database, it should be pretty simple from there.
Its at http://anongit.gentoo.org/
(In reply to Alec Warner from comment #11) > Its at http://anongit.gentoo.org/ http://sources.gentoo.org/gitweb/?p=packages.git;a=summary git://sources.gentoo.org/packages.git
With my limited use of these sites I continue preferring packages.gentoo.or on znurt.org. It is more immediate... when regularly updated.
We have a replacement packages site lined up for launch that integrates well into the current front-end layout as well as infra circumstances. Thanks for your interest and planning on getting znurt ready for a gentoo.org deployment, however this request is obsolete now.
