Description Joerg Schaible 2010-08-07 12:26:05 UTC
Using the Gentoo 2.6.35 kernel I face freezes of some milliseconds when transfering data between HD and an USB drive (also hard disk), followed by some obscure console output and entries about a bug with soft lockups in the kernel.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot with 2.6.35 (to console, no X)
2. Connect and mount USB drive
3. Start data transfer between HD and USB drive (rsync actually)

Actual Results:
Data transfer is interrupted by freezes and error messages on console

Expected Results:
Faste and reliable data transfer

Kernel log of that session, error reports start at 09:04. Machine was booted for a backup operation. Backup is normally finished after ~40 mins.
Comment 2 Christian Schmitt 2010-08-12 15:54:46 UTC
Did you try gentoo-sources-2.6.35-r1 already? I had a similar problem and I see no more lockups here.
Comment 3 Joerg Schaible 2010-08-12 16:37:07 UTC
I intented to, but had no time and I will be offline the next 3 weeks anyway. But good to hear, it's the first thing I try when coming back. 2.6.34 has also nasty problems with my machine.
Comment 4 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2010-09-12 13:45:19 UTC
Please reopen if still an issue with later kernels
