Description Alexander E. Patrakov 2010-08-07 04:30:34 UTC
>>> Failed to emerge net-dns/unbound-1.4.6, Log file:

>>>  '/home/build/portage/net-dns/unbound-1.4.6/temp/build.log'

Reproducible: Sometimes

Steps to Reproduce:
# emerge -v ldns unbound

[ebuild R ] net-libs/ldns-1.6.5 USE="python ssl vim-syntax -doc -lib32" 0 kB
[ebuild U ] net-dns/unbound-1.4.6 [1.4.5] USE="python threads -debug -lib32 -static -test" 0 kB

(lib32 comes from the modified portage from the multilib overlay, please ignore it)
Actual Results:
Failed to emerge due to a race condition. Unfortunately, I erased the failed log while trying to determine whether the bug is reproducible, but it involved a header file being changed while copying. And in the successful build log I see:

make[1]: Entering directory `/home/build/portage/net-dns/unbound-1.4.6/work/unbound-1.4.6/ldns-src'
./install-sh -c -m 644 ldns/error.h ./include/ldns/
./install-sh -c -m 644 ldns/error.h ./include/ldns/
./install-sh -c -m 644 ldns/error.h ./include/ldns/
./install-sh -c -m 644 ldns/packet.h ./include/ldns/
./install-sh -c -m 644 ldns/packet.h ./include/ldns/

i.e. some headers are indeed copied more than once, which explains this race condition.

And BTW, it should not use the bundled ldns library, so please investigate why the system one is not good enough.

Since the standalone ldns library build process doesn't attempt to copy headers more than once, it may be sufficient to cause it to be used again.

Expected Results:
Emerged successfully even with -j3, using the system ldns library.

This is quite an old version and I cannot reproduce with the latest version. Mind re-opening this report if it happens on unbound-1.4.17? Thanks.
Comment 2 Alexander E. Patrakov 2012-07-15 03:18:56 UTC
I rebuilt it several times with MAKEOPTS=-j5, no failure. So let's consider this fixed.
