New diskless-howto.xml based on previous doc/openmosix-howto, updated, enhanced and reviewed.
Created attachment 20473 [details] diskless-howto.xml Please comment. See how it looks here: http://dev.gentoo.org/~neysx/tests/diskless-howto.html
it is a shame that this doc does not mention ltsp.org (Linux Terminal Server Project) at all. i think we should try and have people use ltsp instead of trying to do it all manually.
the doc should link to: http://etherboot.sourceforge.net/db/index.php (database of etherboot/pxe capable nics) http://www.ltsp.org/ (Linux Terminal Server Project) also at the top it says: "The slave node needs a network adapter that supports PXE booting. Most modern cards do." change to: "The slave node needs a network adapter that supports PXE or etherboot booting. Most modern cards do. Many built-in adapters on motherboards will also work."
LTSP: you're welcome to enhance this doc or the ltsp.xml, or integrate them into one, I can't write about ltsp. From the little I know, there is a major difference between a diskless and LTSP: programs run either on diskless or on ltsp server. Why not direct readers to openmosix-howto and ltsp at end of guide as examples of diskless possible use? etherboot: thanks for the link. It should be mentioned that you still need a floppy disk to boot with etherboot, making your diskless not totally diskless anymore.
Created attachment 20697 [details, diff] Reviewed document This is the reviewed version. Apart from some language updates, I've also commented out the ClusterNFS information for now.
Xavier: you can commit this document, there is no reason to keep this on hold afaik.
Committed. Thanks for reviewing. One typo corrected in reviewed doc: s/verions/version/
