Xchat offers four options regarding spell-check : none, static, libsexy or gtkspell. The ebuild for "xchat-2.8.6-r1" sets it to "static", making spell check possible for one unique language. My request is on having the choice of spell check through USE flags so the user can go for "libsexy" or "gtkspell", not just "static". Both "libsexy" and "gtkspell" work for multiple language spell. Gtkspell is the default on latest port (2.8.6-r2 -> 2.8.8) but these versions of xchat come along with other issues, including ones from using "gtkspell" (#246138)
I cannot promise to fix this. IIRC the decision to _not_ make the spellchecking backends switchable via USE flag was for a reason. Now I gotta find out what reason this was. Maybe it has something to do with bug #246138

By the way, minutes after I reported this, xchat made it for an upgrade to version 2.8.6-rc2 in stable tree, with "gtkspell". It works for multiple languages.
Should be fixed as 2.8.6-r1 is no longer in the tree...
