FileHandler-Unget-0.16.21 is the current stable version in Gentoo. It implicity depends on ExtUtils::MakeMaker::bytes, provided by ExtUtils::MakeMaker. Since dev-lang/perl-5.8.8-r8 includes ExtUtils::MakeMaker version 6.30, there's no problem in stable. But according to ExtUtils::MakeMaker's changelog, ExtUtils::MakeMaker::bytes was deleted in version 6.51_01. Since dev-lang/perl-5.10.1 includes version 6.55_02, FileHandler-Unget will stop working with that Perl version. There are 2 ways to fix the problem: * Mark dev-perl/FileHandler-Unget-0.16.23 as stable. It's available in the portage tree since August 2009, works with either stable or unstable Perl versions, no open bugs, and doesn't depend on ExtUtils::MakeMaker::bytes. * Patch dev-perl/FileHandler-Unget-0.16.21 to remove the dependency. I could provide the patch, if needed.
I prefer the first. Let's move on... Thanks Please stabilize =dev-perl/FileHandle-Unget-0.16.23
