I'm able to run the tests (there are none?) just fine here, using php-5.3.2 with USE="cli". What does ls -al `php-config --php-binary` say? Does it point to a valid file?

This might be due to our way of building php - one SAPI at a time. Your php-config might get confused if cli is not the last SAPI to build. The 5.3 and 5.2.14 ebuilds use a different strategy and (at least here) work fine. Can you try with php-5.3.3?

Well, it only gets visible that this package has no tests :) In any case: -) Can this problem (no php cli configured) hit stable users in other ways, what is the strategy? Aside: Where did the Changelog of dev-lang/php go??? Thanks.
Actually, I'm waiting for php-5.2.14 to become stable. It includes the same kind of fixes to php-config as php-5.3.3. The Changelog got fixed, thanks :-)
