If I run smplayer, it plays a video normally. This crashes only if I run mplayer. Confirm it with -vo gl. As a temporary solution you can use a different video output driver, -vo xv for example. Recompiling everything didn't help me. Rebooting is not an option :)

Please upgrade your MPlayer, NVidia added glXSwapIntervalEXT and old MPlayer incorrectly prefers that over glXSwapIntervalSGI - unfortunately those are very different functions, thus causing crashes. As a workaround, -vo gl:swapinterval=-1 should work. Alternatively, if Gentoo wants to maintain that version, the "glXSwapIntervalEXT" string should be removed from libvo/gl_common.c (or just the whole r30450 could be backported).
I can't reproduce the bug in media-video/mplayer-1.0_rc4_p20101114 so I think this bug could be rejected or something...
