The ViM delevopers have not yet pre-packaged the Estonian spellchecking dictionaries, but as seen from the URL, someone has for the PLD Linux distribution. Their source RPM shows that all they do is recompile the Myspell dictionaries Gentoo already has in the Portage tree (app-dicts/myspell-et) using an easy one-liner ViM script (just invoking the mkspell function in ViM).

In bug 157240 a similar suggestion has been given for the Portuguese language; however, now it's already unneeded. So what about going in the Gentoo spirit and compiling the dictionary from an existing word-list? I've written a simple ebuild for that and it seems to work, it's definitely much better than no spellchecking!

The ebuild I put together

I haven't tested it on other archs than amd64.

Actually, out-of-the-box, the ebuild calls for app-dicts/myspell-et both in DEPEND and RDEPEND (which defaults to DEPEND), while it is actually needed only compile-time (in DEPEND).

Does anybody know a way to make ctrl+c work properly during the run of the ViM scriptlet (the main compiling process)? The presently necessary 'ewarn' seems odd.

Hello, The Gentoo Team would like to firstly thank you for your ebuild
submission. We also apologize for not being able to accommodate you in a timely
manner. There are simply too many new packages.

Allow me to use this opportunity to introduce you to Gentoo Sunrise. The
sunrise overlay[1] is a overlay for Gentoo which we allow trusted users to
commit to and all users can have ebuilds reviewed by Gentoo devs for entry
into the overlay. So, the sunrise team is suggesting that you look into this
and submit your ebuild to the overlay where even *you* can commit to. =)

Thanks,
On behalf of the Gentoo Sunrise Team,
Markos.
