If I try to use my bluetooth headphones with net-wireless/bluez-4.63, it connects and appears in pulseaudio as a sink (no matter if I use A2DP profile or HSP frofile or connect them both at once). This is the output from bluetoothd -nd: bluetoothd[19610]: State changed /org/bluez/19610/hci0/dev_00_19_7F_1B_E8_BE: HEADSET_STATE_DISCONNECTED -> HEADSET_STATE_CONNECTING bluetoothd[19610]: link_key_request (sba=00:19:86:00:10:FE, dba=00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE) bluetoothd[19610]: kernel auth requirements = 0x00 bluetoothd[19610]: stored link key type = 0x00 bluetoothd[19610]: adapter_get_device(00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE) bluetoothd[19610]: Discovered Handsfree service on channel 1 bluetoothd[19610]: /org/bluez/19610/hci0/dev_00_19_7F_1B_E8_BE: Connecting to 00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE channel 1 bluetoothd[19610]: /org/bluez/19610/hci0/dev_00_19_7F_1B_E8_BE: Connected to 00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE bluetoothd[19610]: Received AT+BRSF=24 bluetoothd[19610]: HFP HF features: "Voice recognition activation" "Remote volume control" However, if I try it with never version (.64 and .67), I get this: bluetoothd[23165]: State changed /org/bluez/23165/hci0/dev_00_19_7F_1B_E8_BE: HEADSET_STATE_DISCONNECTED -> HEADSET_STATE_CONNECTING bluetoothd[23165]: link_key_request (sba=00:19:86:00:10:FE, dba=00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE) bluetoothd[23165]: kernel auth requirements = 0x00 bluetoothd[23165]: stored link key type = 0x00 bluetoothd[23165]: adapter_get_device(00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE) bluetoothd[23165]: Discovered Handsfree service on channel 1 bluetoothd[23165]: /org/bluez/23165/hci0/dev_00_19_7F_1B_E8_BE: Connecting to 00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE channel 1 bluetoothd[23165]: hcid_dbus_bonding_process_complete: status=00 bluetoothd[23165]: adapter_get_device(00:19:7F:1B:E8:BE) bluetoothd[23165]: hcid_dbus_bonding_process_complete: no pending auth request # Here is really long pause, 1-2 seconds bluetoothd[23165]: Function not implemented (38) bluetoothd[23165]: State changed /org/bluez/23165/hci0/dev_00_19_7F_1B_E8_BE: HEADSET_STATE_CONNECTING -> HEADSET_STATE_DISCONNECTED And nothing appears in pulseaudio, no sound plays. I tried pairing few times, clearing data in /var/lib/bluetooth, with and without hal, all with the same results. Greping the sources for 'Function not implemented' gives no results, so the message must come from something else, but I have no idea what. The strange thing is, it works on my other computer (that one is 32bit singlecore intel, this is 64bit quadcore AMD, but I copyed the configuration, so it should be the same). The adaptor is USB one (OMEGA MICRO BT140). Is there any other info I can provide? Or, Should I post it upstream? Please try with bluez-4.67
As I already wrote, I did: „However, if I try it with never version (.64 and .67), I get this:“. Maybe I should have written full versions, but writing >= to the summary seemed wrong, because I hope there will be version that works.
Sorry, I missed it (yesterday was so late... :-( ) I would suggest you to report directly to upstream: http://www.bluez.org/development/lists/ The changes introduced in 4.64 were the following, but I don't know which one could cause this problem: ver 4.64: Fix invalid memory access in headset_get_nrec function. Fix issue with disconnect event on higher protocol layers. Fix issue with list parsing in sdp_set_supp_features function. Fix device object reference counting for SDP browse requests. Add missing memory checks whenever memory is allocated for SDP. Add support for exporting local services via D-Bus. Add more L2CAP Enhanced Retransmission test options.
It seems to be related to the device (I got a different one and it works fine), it probably does not support some kind of binding feature (guessed from the commit that causes my problem ‒ aee26b30bbc24cde464ba1a557c2b258ddec6432). However, it seems to be completely ignored on the mailing list, they seem not to be interested. Does it still count as a bug if the device is to blame? Missing workaround? Thanks
(In reply to comment #4) > However, it seems to be completely ignored on the mailing list, they seem not > to be interested. Sometimes there are mails that are missed, but maybe you can send another mail to insist a bit (for example, I had to post a mail simply quoting my original one and adding "Any news on this?, thanks a lot :-)" to get upstreamed one of the patches we are applying)
How did this ended? How does this work with 4.70?
It connects the H2DP protocol, but the HSP does not. And it has other problems, like when there is no sound for a while and then it starts again, it gets stuck after about one second (like, no sound, unresponsive application). I already decided to consider the dongle buggy, as it works without problems with a different one. And my mails were completely ignored on the list, even when I tried to remind. So, what is the correct thing with this bug? Invalid, as it is probably caused by bad HW?
(In reply to comment #7) > So, what is the correct thing with this bug? Invalid, as it is probably caused > by bad HW? > But, does that "bad" hardware work *now* with bluez-4.63? Please retest with 4.63 You can download old ebuilds here to test: http://sources.gentoo.org/cgi-bin/viewvc.cgi/gentoo-x86/net-wireless/bluez/?hideattic=0
Sorry, I didn't notice I still had a mask for new bluez, so the last time I tested, I was actually testing 4.63 without knowing it. So, the status is: • Does work (with minor glitches) with 4.63 • Does not work with 4.71 (no connect) • Does not work with 4.70 (no connect) All three mentioned versions work with a different dongle (and without the glitches). Once again, sorry for the wrong info in #7.
Have you tried to manually revert commit that cause this breakage with bluez-4.71? Maybe it would "work" :-/
I did that revert with some 4.65 when I was testing it is the commit and it did work. Is it enough or is there any gain in trying again with .71? Thanks
Will try to ask again in upstream mailing list, maybe I am lucky and get more information :-) Thanks
Please provide hcidump output while it's failing with latest bluez, thanks

Created attachment 249317 [details] Bluetoothd output
Sorry for taking so long, I didn't get to it sooner. I added both the hcidump and the bluetoothd output of the same session, if it is of any use to compare them. Thanks
OK, mailed to upstream mailing list, I hope this try ends better :-)
Created attachment 249606 [details, diff] 1.patch Please try to apply this patch to your kernel sources and, then, recompile your kernel
Applied to today Linus' tree. Didn't connect, and it took longer (or at last it seems). Going to provide new versions of the dump.
