Description James Broadhead 2010-07-08 21:14:47 UTC
kaddressbook ignores my system locale, and so cannot format addresses correctly in my addressbook.

My locale:
LANG=en_IE.UTF-8
LC_CTYPE="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_NUMERIC="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_TIME="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_COLLATE="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_MONETARY="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_MESSAGES="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_PAPER="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_NAME="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_ADDRESS="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_TELEPHONE="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_MEASUREMENT="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_IDENTIFICATION="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL=en_IE.UTF-8

Here is the warning I continually receive (more output attached):
kaddressbook(1914)/kdepimlibs (kabc) KABC::Address::formattedAddress: address format database incomplete (no format for locale "C" found). Using default address formatting

Reproducible: Always

Where exactly do you set your locale?

Can you set it system-wide in /etc/env.d/02locale, reboot and try again just for a test?

Which kde version is that?

$ cat /etc/env.d/02locale
LANG="en_IE.UTF-8"
LC_ALL="en_IE.UTF-8"

Currently, it is affecting kaddressbook-4.4.5, but it has affected previous versions as well.

I believe that it is trying to display addresses differently based on the country that they are in, and failing to find locale files with which to do this. Most of my addressbook consists of addresses in Ireland, so that locale at least should be installed on my system.

The best thing is probably to file a bug at bugs.kde.org and add its url here...

I have just installed kde-base/kaddressbook-4.4.8

And the error message has been replaced with:
"kaddressbook(12338)/kdepimlibs (kabc) KABC::Address::formattedAddress: address format database incomplete (no format for locale "ie" found). Using default address formatting."

any luck with 4.4.9 or 4.4.10?

Sorry for the lack of update, I haven't been using kaddressbook, and the upgrade to KDE:4.6 was messy for me.

Have upgraded to:
kde-base/kdebase-runtime-meta-4.6.2
kde-base/kaddressbook-4.4.9
kde-base/kontact-4.4.9

At present, I cannot replicate, as kaddressbook won't import my addressbook created by 4.4.8. Possibly related to bug #354491. I am going to try ~x86 of kaddressbook and kontact, and will report results.

Not sure if we can help much here :|

Yeah - upstream don't seem to care, and looks like it's been fixed. May as well close.
