When parallel startup is enabled (rc_parallel=YES in /etc/rc.conf), pressing 'i' during boot has no effect. Interactive mode has obviously been enabled in rc.conf
The upstream bug: http://roy.marples.name/projects/openrc/ticket/135 may be of interest. Personally, I'm not sure what pressing i should even do in a parallel boot. The concept doesn't seem to extend very well in my opinion.
I think the only "fix" we could do here easily would be to document in rc.conf that if you enable rc_parallel rc_interactive will be automatically disabled, because there is no way to have an interactive parallel startup. What does everyone else think? If there are no objections I will add this note to the comments about rc_parallel and close this bug.

The comment about this was actually added to rc_interactive, and it states that this will be disabled if rc_parallel is set to YES.
