Description Paolo Pedroni 2010-07-07 12:04:47 UTC
1.8.2 was released over a week ago, it's the same code as RC2, no changes.

I tried just renaming the ebuild for xorg-server-1.8.1.902 and it seems to work (that is: it compiles fine). I'll see if it works after restarting X and I'll follow up on this bug.

So what exactly would it bring over the 1.8.1.902 which is already in tree?

We wont rename the ebuild.
It is useless to force update on everyone when they already have rc2.

Remove the warnings about running pre-release versions of the X server? Having people who don't usually run RC test it and run it. At least rename the existing ebuild.

Why? At least people who don't run RC can run the latest stable version.

And the latest stable == the rc 1:1

So where is your problem, it is not required update. And most people run emerge -NDu world anyway so they test it.

Bumping package that compiles for more than half hour on some machines just to keep with upstream versioning scheme is just dumb.
