Description Cedric Laczny 2010-07-06 08:12:09 UTC
Hi,

I want to suggest the addition of some information to the Samba/Cups Howto concerning 64-bit Windows.
I recently had to connect two Windows client PCs, one with Windows XP (32-bit), the other with Windows 7 (64-bit). Having followed the guide was enough for the 32-bit WinXP to enable Samba-connection and also printer-sharing. However, for the 64-bit Win7, it did not work.
I searched around and found the following website that explains how to deal with 64-bit Windows: http://blog.encomiabile.it/2010/02/17/samba-cups-and-windows-32-64-bit-drivers .
Basically, what needs to be done is to retrieve 64-bit drivers. net-print/cups-windows seems to contain only 32-bit versions. However, the cups-svn does provide a 64-bit version which worked for me. I got the other drivers (pscript5.dll etc.) from the Windows7 client directly. All this needs to be put in the right directory (/usr/share/cups/drivers/x64/) but the rest works just as mentioned in the gentoo-howto.
Because of the increasing usage of 64-bit Windows, I think it would be interesting to include this information in the howto.

Best,

Cedric

Reproducible: Always
