I just hit this when installing libtool on a MIPS box:

***** aclocal *****

***** aclocal -I libltdl/m4

configure.ac:26: error: Autoconf version 2.62 or higher is required
configure.ac:26: the top level
autom4te-2.61: /usr/bin/m4 failed with exit status: 63
aclocal-1.10: autom4te failed with exit status: 63

libtool-2.2.8{,-r1} should depend on >=sys-devel/autoconf-2.62, but in the ebuild they depend on >=sys-devel/autoconf-2.60.

ive fixed libtool-2.2.10 as 2.2.8 is dying.  dont know why you've opted to install 2.2.8 on your system ...
