some debug output and gdb bt

file name corrected ('ff-3.6.3_crash' was wrong)
Comment 3 Attila Stehr 2010-07-07 20:30:20 UTC
I just found out that this is most probably not a firefox problem since evolution crashes in the same manner (libpthread and SIGPIPE).

As soon as it crashes (again) I'll post the backtrace. (I just reemerged evolution-data-server with debug settings to be able to post a _meaningful_ bt.)

This is actually most likely a glibc issue, you should try upgrading to lastest ~arch glibc and see if you can reproduce it.
Comment 5 Attila Stehr 2010-07-12 15:30:20 UTC
I updated glibc

$ ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~amd64" emerge -pv glibc
[ebuild R ] sys-libs/glibc-2.11.2 USE="(multilib) nls -debug -gd -glibc-omitfp (-hardened) -profile (-selinux) -vanilla" 0 kB

Recently firefox doesn't crash but makes gdb print a backtrace, evolution crashes - please have a look at the attachment.

One interesting thing seems to be this one:
#2 0x00007ffff12febe0 in ssl_DefSend (ss=0x2522560, buf=Cannot access memory at address 0x7fffc83c97b0

Please do not change severity, a dev will change the severity when it is needed. As you are the only user currently on the bug, this is a normal bug.
Comment 9 Jory A. Pratt gentoo-dev 2010-12-30 03:42:49 UTC
4+ months no activity, please feel free to reopen if mozilla products are still a problem on your system.
Comment 10 Attila Stehr 2011-01-11 23:11:31 UTC
Yes, firefox is still crashing. I'm using this version atm:

[ebuild R ] www-client/firefox-3.6.13 USE="alsa dbus ipc libnotify startup-notification -bindist -custom-optimization -gnome -java -system-sqlite -wifi" LINGUAS="de"

I use an addon now which make firefox not load all tabs load on start but only the accessed ones. Apart from that I use (and used) noscript.

Now, firefox crashes if I allow more than one server to execute javascript on the same tab. It doesn't matter if I'm doing this at once or tab 1 allow x, then tab 2 allow x, then back to tab allow y.

Afaik no addon should be able to make firefox crash so I guess the addon itself shoudln't be the problem.

I'll append a recent backtrace, a collection of crash outputs and emerge --info.

3x output to terminal when firefox crashed (seem to be different)
Comment 14 Attila Stehr 2011-01-12 00:54:48 UTC
addition:

Often the mouse and keyboard aren't released for use in X after firefox crashed which means clicking anywhere leads to no result, changing the desktop or to another running app is not possible (alt-tab)... In that case all I can do is to switch to one of the consoles (ctrl-alt-F<n>) and kill firefox.

Assumption is incorrect, an addon such as noscript can cause a memory crash which is what you are experiencing, you will need to test with a perfectly clean profile NO plugins at all.

Ok, I did so. Firefox crashes when I try to watch a video on youtube.

[ebuild R ] www-plugins/lightspark-0.4.5.1 USE="nsplugin pulseaudio" 0 kB
[ebuild R ] www-plugins/gnash-0.8.8 USE="agg cairo dbus fbcon ffmpeg gtk nls opengl python sdl sdl-sound ssl test* vaapi xv (-aqua) -cygnal -doc -gnome -gstreamer -kde (-kdeenablefinal) (-lirc) -mysql -nsplugin -ssh" VIDEO_CARDS="-intel" 0 kB

So this may be a lightspark or gnash problem?
I may have missed something but isn't ff immune to plugin crashes since version 3.6?

Ok no plugins means no plugins no flash nothing, use -safe-mode if you do not want to move plugins out the way from the system. I am not gonna track a bug in any form of a plugin, that will fall back to the plugins maintainer.

Well, I can not reproduce the problem with the flash plugin disabled. The only thing happening was ff crashing when "sending ff into the background" (ctrl-z) while debugging but I guess that's not really an issue.

I'll attach the backtrace anyways.

To the flash issue - I should file a new bug report about a flash problem in firefox caused by gnash or lightspark - in case there isn't one yet - right?

This would be correct, I do not see this actually being a firefox issue at this point you can reassign and update this bug if you want. Please update the summary if you do so.

I think the initial issue is different from the flash problem and it seems not to appear anymore. So imho the best option is to set this report to INVALID and create a new one.

Apart from that I see no possibility to reassign the bug.
