If you launch dolphin directly into "columns" view, no matter what your permissions are, the option to "Create New" is greyed out. This is an issue fixed about 5 months ago in kde bug tracker https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=222329 What i Did to solve the problem is download dolphinview.cpp and dolphinview.h from the KDE SVN and replace the ones provided by the 4.4.4 ebuild. Then I emerged manually (ebuild unpack, (MANUAL PATCH), compile, install, qmerge) I'm attaching 6 files: - 2 originals - 2 downloaded from SVN - 2 diff files I'm in no way expert in creating ebuilds, so I thought maybe this would help someone or maybe even to create a dolphin-4.4.4-r1 ebuild by someone knowledgeable. Mede Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Set preferences in dolphin to show columns view by default 2.Close dolphin 3.Start dolphin in any dir so that it starts in column view 4.Right click in "void" area, and see "Create New" greyed out 5.Switch to "Icon view" 6.Switch back to "Columns view" 7."Create new" option is now available Actual Results: "Create New" Greyed out Expected Results: "Create New" should be available.
