Comment 1 Jack 2010-07-02 00:36:22 UTC
I have the same problem, but started from a terminal, I get:

./chrome: /lib/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by ./chrome)
/opt/chromium.org/chrome-linux/chrome: /lib/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by /opt/chromium.org/chrome-linux/chrome)
/proc/self/exe: /lib/libz.so.1: no version information available (required by /proc/self/exe)

I'm on amd64.
Comment 2 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2010-07-02 08:08:31 UTC
Hmmm so this happens on both x86 and amd64? It works on my devbox on ~amd64, Pawel, can you test on x86 just in case?

Can you try with a clean profile (this will not touch your current profile):
# chromium-bin --user-data-dir=/tmp/test
Comment 3 wd 2010-07-02 08:22:38 UTC
I've tried delete ~/.config/chromium but not work.

'chromium-bin --user-data-dir=/tmp/test' not work too...
Comment 4 Jack 2010-07-02 14:21:26 UTC
In case it helps, when using the command from comment #2, a 'ps auxf' shows

jack 21996 0.0 0.0 17872 1864 pts/5 Ss 10:14 0:00 \_ /bin/bash
jack 22053 1.4 1.4 357092 45692 pts/5 Sl+ 10:16 0:00 | \_ ./chrome --user-data-dir=/tmp/test

jack 22055 0.2 0.0 0 0 pts/5 Z+ 10:16 0:00 | \_ [chrome] <defunct>

Is there any other useful info I can provide?
Comment 5 Marios Andreopoulos 2010-07-03 12:19:38 UTC
I have this bug too on ~amd64. The difference is that my chromium-bin doesn't give any output to the console. The symptoms are exactly the same with the reporter's: I run chromium and although the gui seems to work fine it doesn't show any page and gives me the "page(s) unresponsive" dialog.
Comment 6 fornix.is 2010-07-04 16:21:37 UTC
I confirm I get this bug on my ~amd64

Works on my stable x86 system.

Yeah, everything is fine both with the existing profile and a clean profile. I can't reproduce the problem.

The libz errors are probably irrelevant here. I was also getting them (might be worth another look anyway).

It would be interesting to see how www-client/chromium behaves on systems on which chromium-bin misbehaves.

Chromium won't start because libpng12.so.0 not present in system. Only libpng-1.4 available.
Symbolic link to libpng-1.4 doesn't helps.

I have libpng-1.2.44 installed. and there is a '/usr/lib/libpng12.so.0'.

[I] media-libs/libpng
     Available versions:
	(0)	1.2.43-r2 1.4.3
	(1.2)	1.2.44
     Installed versions: 1.2.44(1.2)(08:03:54 PM 07/03/2010) 1.4.3(08:03:39 PM 07/03/2010)

Comment 10 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2010-07-07 09:07:06 UTC
Yes, chromium-bin rdepends on =libpng-1.2*, so if you have libpng-1.4 installed, it should have brought in libpng-1.2.44

As for the bug on topic, I have not found any relevant bugs upstream, and
* this is not arch-dependant (x86 and amd64 both have problems)
* this is not profile-related (clean profile does not solve it)
Hmm...
Comment 11 Dominik Kozaczko 2010-07-07 15:32:47 UTC
Does not work on my amd64.

I have both libpng14 and libpng12 - the second is a hacked to include all libpng12 files (not only libpng12.so.0) but still Chromium does not work.

http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=33470 seems to refer to the libz version issue, but I'm not sure if that's the cause of the page unresponsive message or just a red herring. I did just discover that even about:plugins never loads, not just regular web pages. I plan on trying to emerge chrome - I just haven't had a chance yet.
Comment 13 wd 2010-07-18 12:42:49 UTC
Install 9999 version today, it worked for me.

The source file is chromium-bin-52853.zip, wish to work for others.
Comment 14 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2010-07-19 00:12:07 UTC
On a hunch, do you have a nvidia card (and binary nvidia-drivers)?
http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=44590
http://src.chromium.org/viewvc/chrome?view=rev&revision=51539

Anyway as this seems to be fixed (thanks for checking -9999 btw), I'll pick up a new version and update ebuilds soon
Comment 15 Bernard Cafarelli gentoo-dev 2010-07-19 08:20:57 UTC
I could reproduce it indeed on another computer with nvidia-drivers, chromium-bin-6.0.470.0_p52843 is now in tree (latest tagged release) and should fix everything here :)

Thanks for the report and infos, of course feel free to reopen if you still have this problem
Comment 16 Jack 2010-07-19 15:20:26 UTC
Thanks for the update. It works for me (amd64). I do have the nvidia driver 195.36.24.

The "/lib/libz.so.1: no version information available" message is still there, but it doesn't seem to have any actual ill effects.
