Description Dane Smith (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-06-27 21:51:20 UTC
When use contains ruby I ran into an issue:
Building ruby...ruby: no such file to load -- auto_gem (LoadError)

Emerging rubygems fixed this. Is it perhaps missing a DEPEND for
dev-ruby/rubygems if USE="ruby"?

thanks for reporting, adding ruby@ to CC list if they have some info what's the correct approach on this...
I remember we have something called ruby-fakegem.eclass in Portage too, but never used it myself.

This is likely invalid.
auto_gem is only required if rubygems is installed. Usual cause for these issues is emerge -C rubygems and disregarding the ewarn message.

Well, I was using my fresh and clean chroot environment, so rubygems was never installed, and that file did not exist inside the chroot. However, I do have Rubygems installed on the base system, and the environment variable carried into it, causing the issue.

Unsetting RUBYOPTS did indeed get rid of the error.

Disregard this entirely.

Thanks for the heads up Alex.
